Helston Motor Group is one of the 25 largest dealer groups in Britain, with dealerships throughout Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Dorset, covering 13 manufacturers. The group’s flagship site - Westerly BMW in Exeter - was using an outdated Alcatel phone system. There were no networked connections between sites. Some of the older sites had infrastructure issues that had impeded the introduction of more modern telecoms. The priorities for the business were to improve group-wide communications and to provide mobility for sales staff to view and discuss vehicles with potential customers in real time.
Throughout the Helston Garages Group IP Office Ltd deployed the Avaya IP Office 500 communications platform. This is ideally suited to the requirements with full hybrid capabilities. At the Westerly BMW Exeter site the requirement included over 100 DECT cordless handsets to provide full mobility for the sales team. At the time the DECT cordless installation was the biggest in Europe for Avaya on the IP Office 500 platform. Inter-site networking has been achieved over a majority of sites using the award winning SIP solution – iLine. The hybrid architecture provided maximum flexibility to overcome infrastructure issues, supporting analogue, digital or IP deployment as appropriate.
